It's the time of the year again. It was nice to be wished Happy New Year at the Vietnamese grocery store earlier. Since the lunar new year would probably have come and gone unnoticed, we've decided to continue - what may become our tradition here - to throw a party for our friends. Hopefully we'll even introduce a game of cards after that, hehe. What's New Year without cards, right?

Being away from home at this time is always a little hard for me. This is only my 2nd CNY away from home. But I'm feeling less nostalgic now that it is the 2nd. When thinking about our menu for tonight, we were reminiscing about all the typical types of CNY food and came up with...none. Well, CNY for me has always been about rendangs, curries, ketupats and satay kuahs. Maybe it's a Malacca thing. Largely it's a only-the-non-Chinese-will-cater-for-you thing. So, we'll just ditch tradition, if there was one, and go with Vietnamese spring rolls (also what we did at last year's party) - fun DIY style. People seem to like it and it's relatively less work too. Perfect. We'll see if my mother's cashew nut cookies work out too.

Anyway, enough blubbering. I'd better do whatever else needs to be done and get on with it.

Oh, and Monday's a holiday!!!!!! Not for the New Year (President's Day), but I'll take it as that, thanks Uncle Sam!!
